When pointed out as having “slightly high blood sugar” or being “pre-metabolic syndrome” at a health checkup, the first things people worry about are “what to eat (amount of carbohydrates)” and “the order of eating (veggies first).” However, there is actually a factor that is even more important and completely overlooked by many. That is the issue of how to normally activate the “early phase insulin secretion (first phase).”
Insulin is the only hormone that lowers blood sugar levels, but if the way it is released (timing) is wrong, it degrades into a mere “fat-storing (obesity) hormone.” And the “first trigger” to cause this insulin to be secreted at the optimal timing and in the optimal amount is exactly “chewing in the mouth.”
The Pancreas of Modern People is Experiencing “Overwork and Panic”
The pancreas, which secretes insulin, is actually a very delicate organ. Originally, in a normal body, immediately after starting to eat (before the blood sugar level rises), it reacts to a preliminary bell saying “sugar is coming in soon” and quickly releases a small amount of insulin. This is the “early phase secretion.”
However, the modern “soft diet that can be swallowed without chewing” and “fast eating” have completely destroyed this preliminary bell system.
- The Terror of Fast Eating: If you wash a rice bowl dish or ramen into your stomach after chewing only a few times, a massive amount of sugar instantly reaches the small intestine and is absorbed into the blood with explosive force (blood sugar spike).
- Panic and Delayed Secretion: Attacked by a sudden, intense rise in blood sugar without the “preparation” of early phase secretion, the pancreas panics. It continues to oversecrete more insulin than necessary with a delay, thinking, “Oh no, just put out a massive amount of insulin and lower the blood sugar!” (abnormality of the second phase).
- Towards a Constitution Prone to Weight Gain and Fatigue: This “massive amount of delayed insulin” forcibly packs all the excess sugar into fat cells (obesity). Furthermore, as a rebound to excessive insulin secretion, you fall into a “sudden severe hypoglycemic state” 2 to 3 hours after a meal, creating intense sleepiness and a false sense of hunger saying “I want to eat something sweeter.”
The “Ready Signal” Chewing Sends to the Pancreas via “GLP-1”
A system to prevent this tragedy and save the pancreas from panic has been equipped in our bodies from the beginning. That is the “incretin effect (secretion of GLP-1).”
- Initial Alert via Chewing: While food enters the mouth and is being thoroughly chewed and crushed dozens of times using the jaw muscles, the brain sends a signal to the “intestines” even before the food has reached the stomach or small intestine.
- Early Release of GLP-1: This causes a gut hormone (incretin) called “GLP-1” to start being secreted ahead of time from the lower part of the small intestine (insulin pathway-related out of E02 and E14).
- Pancreas Standby Complete: The secreted GLP-1 rides the blood and reaches the pancreas, prompting it to “prepare (standby) so that you can release an appropriate amount of insulin at any time because sugar will be absorbed soon.”
By the functioning of this perfect linked mechanism (preparation) of “chewing → GLP-1 → early phase insulin secretion standby,” the very moment the blood sugar level begins to rise after a meal, the minimum necessary insulin is smoothly secreted, preventing the sudden rise in blood sugar beforehand (formation of the green zone curve).
The “30 Chews” of the First Bite Decides Everything
In order to reduce the load on the pancreas and make insulin function as a “normal energy metabolism hormone” instead of a “fat-storing hormone,” there is only one thing that must be done before medication or strict carbohydrate restriction.
That is, to intentionally and slowly chew at least 30 times on the “very first bite (starter)” of every meal. (E05)
If you just take the time to chew the first bite, the GLP-1 signal will activate, and you can create a standby state in your pancreas. Conversely, no matter how healthy the meal is, the moment you chew the very first bite 5 times and swallow it, the chance for “early phase insulin secretion” for that meal is lost forever, and the pancreas falls into panic again.
“What you eat” is also important, but “whether you eat with a body prepared for insulin” determines our constitution even more. “Chewing” is the most powerful, zero-cost bulletproof vest to protect the pancreas.
